I worked on this postcard design for an upcoming shadow puppet show I’m puppeteering along with the fun folks at Gong Lab.  On the printed collectible version, the center circle rotates on a grommet, revealing stars and a secret message behind it.

A Giving Thanks Dinner, Shadow Puppet Show and Gong Bath Dream-In !

Gong Lab’s Suite for Dreamers is a sonic, visceral, and visual journey designed to bridge the gap between waking and dreaming.

You will bring your mat, blanket, and pillow. Your host HCL will provide a lucious fall repast with vegetarian options. After dinner, lay back and drift off while immersed in a spell inducing shadow story of renewal and reconnection to the bounty of the Earth. (Accompanied by live vocals, percussion and a 38″ Earth Gong.) Come out feeling like the starry night – pretty straight forward.

Tonites’s Shadow Show, inspired by Mary Oliver’s poem “Sleeping in the Forest” features puppets designed by Mike Oleon and Music by Shu Shubat and Oliver Seay, With Puppeteer Carl Brahms and Special Guests River Ofburds and Biz Hurias.

Most of the folks read or sleep or play with their phones, so its rare I get to draw someone looking up.   The Asian man on the left was watching a movie on his laptop and started to cry in the middle of me drawing.  I can’t remember the last time I saw a man cry in public.

A friend of mine had a fun idea to create a shadow puppet show in the style of those ink prints from woodcuts.  This here is my first attempt to create something digitally.  It was ridiculously fun to make and I didn’t have to kill my carpal tunnels carving real wood.
